From the Thumb to the Ankle
Abstract

A 54-year-old man presented with left lower extremity pain, redness, and swelling. After additional workup including a physical exam, radiological, and joint aspiration it was determined that the patient had left ankle septic arthritis and osteomyelitis of the tibia with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) secondary to hematogenous spread from a base of the left thumb ulcer that developed a couple of weeks before his presentation.
