The Role of Celecoxib for Treatment of Isolated Fever in Schizophrenia: A Case Report and Literature Update on its Uses
Abstract

The occurrence of fever in schizophrenic patient can be transiently managed with either Tylenol or Ibuprofen, until the definitive cause of the fever is found. Pro-inflammatory cytokines which cause fever have been linked in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, resulting in some instances of fever without known causes. Treatment options in patient allergic to both medications include the use of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Celecoxib proved effective in the treatment of fever in a patient with a diagnosis of multiple episodes of schizophrenia. Further review showed beneficial roles of Celecoxib in pain management, psychiatric disorders, and cancer treatment.
