Effects of the Shock Wave Therapy Application in Treatment of Heel Thorn: Calcar Calcanei
Abstract

The paper represents the treatment of 48 patients of both sexes with calcified plantar fasciitis and constant pain during previous 6 months. The average age of patients was 52.5 ± XX (mean ± SD) years. All patients were diagnosed with ultrasound or X-ray diagnosis, which was repeated at the end of treatment. A control diagnosis was performed seven days after the completion of therapy. Treatment was performed by mechanical shock wave (shock-wave therapy) generator Masterplus MP 200 with focused probe (frequency of 10 Hz, number of strokes 1600 and strength 1.6 bar) Maximum of ten treatments with a 7-day break was applied and pain scores were determined by t Visual Analogue Scale before and after treatment. The results are shown in the table and are processed statistically. There was a positive pain attenuation response according to the VAS scale, regardless of the number of applications of shock-wave therapy. A minimum of 5 treatments is considered to be a healing standard of the heel spank with shock-wave therapy and a positive correlation was shown between number of applications and size of calcification. In all patients a significant decrease in pain by VAS pain scale was shown. In 22 patients, the decrease of calcification was verified by control diagnosis, and in eight patients there was no calcification Shock-wave is an effective and proper choice for the treatment of pain in patient with calcified plantar fasciitis by reducing calcification size. The method is non-invasive without contraindications.
